Construction Updates
(updated 05/13/08, 12:10 pm)
Lincoln Center is under construction! In Summer 2006 renovations began on several Lincoln Center constituents that face onto 65th St. & Broadway. In Fall 2007, work began on the main Lincoln Center plaza where the entrances to the New York State Theater, Metropolitan Opera and New York Philharmonic are located. Construction will be underway through mid-2009 and will impact the pedestrian and vehicular traffic flows into the various theaters and immediate neighborhood.New York City Ballet encourages you to check this space before your visits to the New York State Theater to be sure you are knowledgeable about mass transit, parking, and other access issues before arriving for a performance. Daily updates will be made to this section so that you have the latest news to speed your way into and out of the New York State Theater during this period.
However you travel, New York City Ballet encourages you to allow extra time so that you don’t miss a single minute of your performance.

HANDICAPPED ACCESS
The north-south drive between 65th Street and 62nd Street is closed and is unavailable for drop-offs under the Terrace of the New York State Theater. The inner driveway linking 65th and 62nd Streets in front of Lincoln Center is unavailable to cars, limousines and taxis. From this point on, it will no longer be possible to drop off individuals requiring wheelchairs or other walking assistance under the canopy of the Terrace at the New York State Theater for Lobby access.
The best option for patrons with limited mobility requiring access to the New York State Theater with as few stairs as possible is to be dropped off on West 62nd St. at the west end of the Theater prior to Damrosch Park. Patrons exiting vehicles at this location should then proceed north (toward Lincoln Center Plaza) along the side of the Theater and turn right at the west end of the Terrace to reach the main Lobby entrance. This pedestrian pathway is marked by an illuminated white canopy extending the length of the Damrosch Park-side of the New York State Theater.
The traditional Wheelchair Entrance will be accessible and can be reached by going west on 62nd Street to just beyond the loading dock of the New York State Theater and taking a right into the first driveway. At the bottom of the incline, and just inside the facility, is a place to stop the car, disembark passengers needing a wheelchair or other walking assistance, who can then be admitted through the Wheelchair Entrance. A red telephone just to the right of the doorway will permit you to gain access to the building.
ADDITIONAL THEATER ACCESS/PERFORMANCES ONLY
For NYCB patrons holding tickets for individual performances and who may find it preferable to access the Theater from the west (Damrosch Park) side bronze doors during the construction period, New York City Ballet is providing ticket takers and bag checkers at one-half hour before the start of performances so that audience members may enter through this additional entrance and take their seats. Access to this entrance is marked by an illluminated white canopy that extends the length of the west side of the New York State Theater. Please Note: there will be no access through these doors for members of the general public or anyone wishing to access the Box Office. They are strictly for pre-performance use prior to the start of a New York City Ballet show.
THEATER ACCESS
The best pedestrian or drop-off access to the Lobby of the New York State Theater is now at W. 63rd St. and Columbus Ave. Flagpoles stand at either side of this staircase access to the Theater.
MASS TRANSIT
Buses: The M104, M5 and M7 bus stop is currently located at 66th St. & Broadway.
Subways: The eastern pedestrian passage connecting the tunnel from the subway by Avery Fisher Hall to the New York State Theater is closed.
PARKING
If you are driving in to see New York City Ballet at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center you may wish to park at the Lincoln Center Pre-pay Park and Lock Garage. The cost is $30 Sunday through Wednesday, and $31 Thursday through Saturday. This performance parking fee permits you to park in the facility from 4 pm-10 am of the next day. Drivers should be prepared for ever-changing driving pathways throughout the garage as construction progresses.
LINCOLN CENTER GARAGE ENTRANCES
Westbound (via 62nd Street)
The entrance is located between Columbus Ave. & Amsterdam Ave. between the New York State Theater and Damrosch Park on the north side of the street.
Eastbound (via 65th Street)
The entrance is located between Columbus Ave. & Amsterdam Ave. Take the second available right into the Lincoln Center complex on the south side of the street after the mid-block stop light. This entrance is currently surrounded by gray metal scaffolding.
Handicapped Access
Designated handicapped parking spaces are located in the Yellow Section of the garage.
Important Note: The Lincoln Center Parking Garage is likely to be full near performance time due to a reduced number of available spaces because of construction demands. The Blue parking area of the main Lincoln Center Parking Garage is closed. All other sections have lost a number of parking spaces due to an increased construction presence. Signage will be posted to assist drivers through new pathways within the garage complex. Drivers without a parking reservation should plan to allow enough time (up to 40 minutes) should they be unable to park at this facility and need to find another location where they can park and which might be at a greater walking distance to the theaters at Lincoln Center. (See below for a list of near-by parking garages. You may wish to print this list and bring it with you for easy reference.)

LANDMARKS
Frequent visitors to Lincoln Center will notice that three of Lincoln Center's favorite "faces" are “missing.” This is because the Henry Moore reclining sculpture that has long been situated in the reflecting pool in front of Lincoln Center Theater and the bright orange Alexander Calder sculpture in front of the entrance to the New York Public Library for Performing Arts Research have been moved offsite during the demolition and reconstruction of Lincoln Center's outdoor spaces. The Revson Fountain that has centered Lincoln Center Plaza for decades was decommissioned in early 2008. A new fountain will be built as part of the Lincoln Center Plaza reconstruction. All will return in the fall of 2009 when the outdoor renovations to this section of the campus are complete.
